Senior families,

My hope is that this email finds you and your family well in light of these challenging times. Since my last communication a few weeks ago, there have been some updates that I wanted to share with families about the upcoming May/June/July events to honor the Members of the Class of 2020. If a parent is interested in assisting in any of these events, we ask that you please reach out to the UHS PTO.

This past Friday, May 1 was National Decision Day for our members of the Class of 2020. National Decision Day is a time when our Senior class members make a decision about where they will attend college for the following school year and beyond. One of the traditions at UHS is that students wear a shirt/sweatshirt with the logo and name of their college emblazoned across it. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 closures, many students have delayed their decisions as to where they will pursue their post-secondary studies for next year. We still would like to honor that tradition in a virtual fashion, and we have selected Monday, June 1 as the day when we will honor this long-standing tradition.

We ask that parents help us to honor our Seniors by recording a video of your student. In the video, the members of the Class of 2020 should be dressed in their college attire, he/she should introduce himself/herself and tell the audience the school/future plans and the potential major of study. Please send the video, along with your student’s name, in an email to UCFSD Communications (ucfsdcommunications@ucfsd.net) by Friday, May 22.  In order to accommodate space for each member of the Class of 2020, we ask that videos are no longer than 10 seconds.

This communication includes a number of upcoming events to honor our members of The Class of 2020. Below is a list of these events with a description of each event listed below it:

  • May 11: A Special delivery to your home to honor the Class of 2020

May 11th: A Special Gift Delivered to Your Home

During The COVID-19 closures, the UHS PTO/UHS Administrative team have partnered to provide the Members of the Class of 2020 and their families with a special way to acknowledge their strength. In that vein, please keep an eye out on Monday, May 11th (May 12th rain makeup day), from approximately 10:30-1:30, for a “special delivery” from a member of the UHS Staff as a way to honor the resilience of the Class of 2020.

May 28th: Yearbook and Cap & Gown Delivery

Each May during our annual Senior Stroll event, the members of the graduating class receive their Yearbook and Cap & Gown. This year, the process of distribution has changed. Caps, gowns and yearbooks will be delivered to Seniors homes.  No pick up at the school.

May 29th: A Virtual Senior Stroll

While the UCFSD buildings have been closed, we have been working very closely with the UCFSD Elementary schools and the Middle School to plan a virtual event that will capture the excitement of this tradition. The Senior Stroll allows the graduating Senior to “go back in time” and recreate some wonderful memories. The elementary and middle school staffs look forward to this annual event as they welcome the graduating class back “Home.” Over the next few weeks, students will be receiving an email invitation to the Senior Stroll with specific Zoom Meeting login information from their specific elementary school and from the Middle School. The Elementary school Senior Stroll will take place from 11:00-12:00, and the Middle School Senior Stroll will be from 1:00-2:00. Families are invited to watch this memorable event with their student(s) and experience this UCFSD tradition.

June 5: The Class of 2020 “Returns” to UHS

After Senior Finals have been completed, Seniors are invited to come back to UHS to return school district materials/retrieve personal items. Over the next few weeks, we will send out more detailed instructions with an alphabetical schedule that will ensure students will abide by social distancing guidelines so that they can safely return/retrieve these items.

Student Access Plan

June 8: The UCFSD Community Celebrates The Class of 2020

To commemorate the original date of Commencement 2020, the Unionville-Chadds Ford Community is planning a parade of cars which will go on a designated route. A committee of parents, teachers, and administrators are actively planning this inaugural event to honor the members of the Class of 2020. We will send out more detailed instructions/maps of parade routes so that all families can safely participate in  this event.

Week of July 20, 2020: Senior Awards Night, Junior/Senior Prom & Commencement

Although  this information was sent out last month, we wanted to update it in this communication. Below is a three-tiered approach to honor the graduates. • The Chase Center, Wilmington, DE

  • Saturday, July 25, 2020:  UHS Commencement Exercises
    • Drive-in movie style event
    • Location and times still to be determined

As things unfold over the next few weeks and months, we will continue to update Senior families of any changes to the events honoring the Class of 2020. Please know that we will do all that we can to honor the Class of 2020, and it is always our intention to put the safety of our students and our community at the forefront of every event that we are planning.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. My hope is that you and your family stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
