The Unionville Orchestra is a performing musical ensemble. We explore the classical repertoire with forays into other eclectic genres. We experience the world of music through ensemble rehearsals, performances, classroom discourse, private and group lessons, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
Our objective of the orchestra is to grow as an ensemble, as musicians, and as individuals.
Students will need an instrument, music, pencil, and an open mind.
Each student will perform an audition at the start of the school year. Requirements for the auditions are scales, a prepared piece from the solo repertoire, and sight-reading.
As a performance ensemble, assignments and homework are nontraditional. As growth is our primary objective, students will need to carve out time with their instruments for practice, study and reflection. The study of music is unique in that so much of our time is spent alone, whittling away at technique and tricky passages, to reconvene as an ensemble to allow our sharpened skills to meld into music, each individual voice creating the unique phenomenon that is the Unionville Orchestra.
