G. Scott Litzenberg - Department Chairperson & Director of Bands

Conducts the UHS Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band & Musical pit orchestra. A 1984 Graduate of West Chester University with a B.S. in Music Education. Has taken graduate courses at West Chester University, Villanova University, and Vandercook College of Music. Graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia in 1980. Past director Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps & member of the Drum Corps International board of directors. He lives in Kennett Square with Mary & his daughter Kristin, who is in 11th grade at Unionville High School.

Mr. Jason Throne - Director of Vocal Music

Mr. Throne received his Bachelor of Music in Education at Temple University in 1996. He began his teaching career in Baltimore, where he taught choral music at Arbutis Middle School. While in Baltimore he studied conducting under the direction of Edward Polochick, the Director of the Baltimore Symphony Chorus, and performed with the Baltimore Symphony and Chamber Chorus.

After receiving his Masters in Choral Conducting at Temple University in 1999, Mr. Throne accepted the role of Apprentice and Program Editor with the Berkshire Choral Festival, where he also lectured on the choral music of Brahms and Bach, as well as music technology.

Mr. Throne has worked with many renowned conductors including Robert Page, Joseph Flummerfelt, Vance George, Marvin Hamlisch, John Rutter, and David Zinman. Drawing from these experiences he currently delivers seminars in conducting for music teachers at regional area high schools.

This past year, Mr. Throne was named Assistant Conductor of the Bucks County Choral Society. In November of 2002 he was Musical Director and Conductor for the Berks and Lebanon County Premieres of Les Misérables, School Edition with the Keystone Arts and Theatre School in Shillington, PA. That same month he was invited to conduct the Monroe/Pike County Chorus Festival at Stroudsburg High School.

Mrs. Janene Bostwick - Director of Strings & Orchestra

Janene Ordener Bostwick has been teaching strings for over 25 years after receiving Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from University of Houston. She studied violin with Fredell Lack and the late Josephine Boudreaux, who was a student of Sevcik and Hubay. In Texas she had middle school groups named Texas Honor String Orchestra two different years and a middle school string group selected to play at Music Educators National Convention at the Mid-West Clinic in Chicago. While in Rochester NY she taught in the preparatory string program of Nazareth College, conducted the youth orchestra at Hockstein School of Music and taught high school orchestra. Many of her former students have gone on to become teachers and performers.

Singing has become a hobby for Mrs. Bostwick and has resulted in several great performance opportunities. As a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, she sang with the Boston Pops Orchestra on Christmas and other holiday televised productions and CDs. She sang with the Boston Symphony under Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Andre Previn and Bernard Haitink in Boston, Tangelwood and Carnegie Hall. Previously a member of the Houston Symphony Chorus and Rochester Opera Theatre, she is currently a member of OperaDelaware chorus.

A native of West Texas, she is married to Dr. Robert Bostwick and the mother of two sons, Jay and Brian.
