This information is a combination of current opportunities and some from prior years with anticipated deadlines. As new dates become available, this page will be updated. Scholarships are listed alphabetically by Local, Regional, National and School-Specific categories. More information is available in the Career Center, in the SCHOLARSHIP BINDER, in Naviance or online if the sponsor's URL is provided.

If School Counselor input is required (official transcript, GPA, recommendation, etc.), applications must be given to your School Counselor at least 10 school days before the deadline. If the application is to be mailed, students must provide appropriate postage and envelopes.

AMERICAN MUSHROOM INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships will be awarded to seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education, such as a two-year technical school, a three-year nursing program, or four-year college. Students must have a 2.5 minimum GPA, demonstrate economic need, have 10 hours of community service within the past year, write a 500 word essay on “The Impact of the Mushroom Industry on the Community” (economic, environmental, cultural), submit a copy of school acceptance letter, and provide three references. Applications are available in the Career Center.

APPLESTONE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships will be awarded to seniors with proven financial need who are pursuing post-secondary education. Students must submit a confidential copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR) from their submitted FAFSA.

CARRIE LARGENT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship is being offered to a UHS senior in memory of Carrie Largent, a 1998 graduate of UHS. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement (top 20% of class), as well as extracurricular activities and personal accomplishments. To apply for this scholarship, please complete an application and essay (information available in the Career Center) and submit to Ms. Vaughn.

LIONS CLUB OF KENNETT SQUARE SCHOLARSHIP
The Lions Club of Kennett Square is offering a scholarship to a senior with financial need. The award will go to a deserving senior with proven academic ability that plans to pursue further education at a two- or four-year college. Application information is available in the Career Center. Two references: no more than one teacher.

RON CAMERON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in construction (a "trade" such as plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, etc. or a "construction professional" such as project manager, engineer, architect, etc). This student is one who best exemplifies Ron’s zest for life, friendships and hard work. Ron attended a technical school after graduating from Unionville High School and chose his career in the HVAC Industry. Ron was passionate about working hard no matter what the task. He had an excellent work ethic and was a valued employee and co-worker. Applicants should see Ms. Vaughn in the Career Center for an application.

UNIONVILLE-CHADDS FORD COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
The Community Scholarship is a grant of a stated amount of money collected annually from the school community by open solicitation. Its purpose is to award the worthy student who wishes to continue his/her education following graduation from Unionville High School. The grant is for the first year of post-secondary work only and will be applied toward college costs (i.e., tuition, room and board). As many grants will be made annually as the treasury of the Community Scholarship can support.The categories for selecting recipients are cumulative grade point average (GPA) as of the end of the third quarter, the score on a timed, handwritten essay, and school activities verified in junior and senior years. Students who have transferred to UHS should have previous school activities substantiated on an official transcript or document with the school seal from the former accredited high school.

UC-F EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP for “The Most Improved Senior”
Please write a 1-2 page (typed) essay describing why you are deserving of a scholarship for “The Most Improved Senior.” Improvement may be in academics, attendance, discipline, personal life, social life, and/or career aspirations. Please be as specific as possible. Essays must be returned to the Career Center.

ALMA NEWLIN EDUCATIONAL FUND
Intended for talented students who reside in Southern Chester County School Districts. The one time scholarship is given to students who are seeking higher education in the health care field. To qualify, high school seniors must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher and must be planning to enter healthcare-related professions. See Career Center for applications.

DELAWARE VALLEY MENSA
The only eligibility requirements are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education, and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa. For the general awards, the applicant need not be a member of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa, and the general awards are unrestricted as to age, gender, level of post-secondary education and financial need. DELAWARE VALLEY SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIALS SCHOLARSHIP
Any high school senior who graduates from a participating DVASBO school entity or who is a dependent of a DVASBO member, and who attends at least a two (2) year post high school academic or vocational program is eligible. DELAWARE VALLEY SCHOOL FACILITY MANAGERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (DVSFMA)
Seniors who are planning to continue their education at a trade or technical school. The candidate’s coursework should be concentrated in the building trades such as HVAC, plumbing, electric, etc. One $2,000 award.

DELMARVA FARMER SCHOLARSHIP
For seniors with an agricultural background; must be a member of a farm family, employed in an ag-related field and to those studying agriculture. ITAG "Go For IT" Scholarship
For high school seniors intending to pursue post-secondary education majoring in information technology, communications technology, or other technology-related field. To enter, participants must download the following application. All applications must be electronically submitted to Leslie Holmes at lholmes@cceconomicdevelopment.com. ELIGIBILITY: The ITAG Go for IT Scholarship, sponsored by the Innovative Technology Action Group, is open to all high school seniors graduating in Spring 2009, whose high school are located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Eligible students must: * Be enrolled full-time in a public or state-accredited private or parochial school and plan to graduate in 2009. * Have earned a minimum GPA of 2.50 documented at the end of their junior year of high school. * Have been accepted at an accredited post-secondary institution with a documented major in technology-related fields.

PENNSYLVANIA ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL SUPPLIERS SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding students who have been successful in their educational pursuits while overcoming physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment & services. PENNSYLVANIA BURGLAR & FIRE ALARM ASSOCIATION YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Enforcement and Fire Service Personnel- Awards range from $500 to $6,500. Students age 15 to 20 who will graduate high school in 2010. Students must have a father, mother or legal guardian who is a full-time active employee of the police or sheriff's department or full-time paid or volunteer member of a fire department. PSECU- PA STATE EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION
Students who are PSECU members and graduating high school seniors can receive one of six (6) $6,000 PSECU scholarships. Recipients may receive $1,500 per year over a four-year period, providing scholarship requirements are met. To qualify, student must be a PSECU member by no later than 12/24/2009. If you are not a member and are applying for membership, please allow one week for membership application processing. You will complete all but the Academic Profile, which is filled in by your school counselor. PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCHOLARSHIPS
Open to all college-bound high school seniors who plan to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school. Two scholarships are awarded per year and can be renewed for up to four years of college. The award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education school (approximately $2,500), but scholarship recipients may attend any Pennsylvania public or private post-secondary institution. Students may also be eligible to receive matching funds from SAGE Scholars, Inc. (Savings and Growth for Education) and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency’s (PHEAA) PATH Program. Recipients’ names are automatically submitted to PHEAA, and a matching award may be granted based upon remaining financial need.

Applications for the 2008 contest have to be submitted to your local Elks Lodge by
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2008 competition.

MARIST COLLEGE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The NSF Scholarship allows Marist to provide an unmatched opportunity to students interested in majoring in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems. This grant will contribute to the development of IT specialists who will be well-prepared to meet the overwhelming demand expected in the field.

Scholarship recipients will receive a full 4-year tuition, room and board scholarship as well as the benefits listed below:

  • State-of-the-art PC laptop with cutting-edge processor and graphic accelerator for maximum horsepower
  • Opportunity to participate in high-level internships and applied research with Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, Aetna, Pepsi, and Verizon
  • Special advising from the dean and key faculty in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics
  • Leaders from IBM, Verizon, Aetna, and Pepsi will serve as individual mentors to these students throughout their four years
  • A two-semester course in game development
THADDEUS STEVENS SCHOLARSHIP
Full Tuition. Students who qualify for a federal grant may qualify for this scholarship. Students should complete the Thaddeus Stevens college application. Students should enter the Thaddeus Stevens college code, 014990, on the FAFSA form and submit the form after January 1, 2010. Scholarships awarded first come, first serve.
