Nike’s
Reuse-a-Shoe Program:
Reuse-a-Shoe is
part of Nike’s Let Me Play campaign, which is dedicated to providing athletic
opportunities to underprivileged children around the world. This particular program is also aimed
at creating a greener earth by recycling sneakers: Nike stores around the world
collect donations of used sneakers, which are then sent to processing
facilities in either Oregon, USA or Belgium that grind the shoes into the raw
materials needed to create athletic surfaces (such as playgrounds, tennis and
basketball courts, etc.) for underprivileged kids around the globe.
About
Us:
We are sophomores
enrolled in Unionville High School’s Honors English 10 program, which entails
an annual group project called “Make a Difference.” Each 10th grade class is divided into groups
based on interests; each group then decides on a way to “make a difference” in
the community. Our group has
decided to initiate this drive as an attempt to help children around the world
experience the same pleasure we gain from participating in sports. Our goal is to collect a total of at
least 2,500 sneakers, which will produce enough material to create a basketball
court! Please help us in achieving
our goal!!!
