About L.I.N.K.

Unionville High School has developed Project L.I.N.K. This program gives invited students the opportunity to
participate in a Peer Leadership Weekend. This Peer Leadership program is designed to positively influence
behaviors and attitudes, and to improve the decision making process of participating students. Additionally, research data indicates that a solid peer leadership experience is a valuable component of programs designed to combat teen substance abuse.

L.I.N.K. is a proactive peer leadership program designed to provide experiences that increases the students' ability to manage potentially difficult, sometimes life-changing choices. The goal of L.I.N.K. is to provide leadership training for select students each year. These students participate (along with adult leaders, counselors and administrators) in various team building, trust and self-awareness activities over the course of a full weekend.

There are two weekends a year (spring and fall), on which 20 ninth graders and 20 tenth graders are invited to join L.I.N.K. and attend the L.I.N.K. weekend. Some teachers and administrators may also attend as participants on each weekend. The weekends are facilitated by 8-10 student L.I.N.K. staff who are usually upper classmen.

The weekend provides experiences for the participants to increase their awareness of others as well as one's own self-esteem. Activities also center around the development of trust and team building. It is hoped that the L.I.N.K. experience enables the students to realize their full leadership potential and take an active role in maintaining a calm and safe environment within the school and community. L.I.N.K. also sponsors other peer-interactive programs such as peer mediation.
